SBB ENERGY’s system for NOx reduction by means of primary measures is a patented, modified overfire air (OFA) system that combines high turbulence and rotating swirl to more effectively stage coal-fired furnaces. While NOx reduction with typical low-NOburners (LNB) and OFA systems can sometimes exceed 35%, SBB’s primary NOx reduction routinely exceeds 50% and, depending on furnace geometry, SBB’s primary NOx reduction can exceed 60%. Loss on ignition (LOI) is often decreased or unchanged and CO exit concentrations routinely fall below 20 ppm. Due to the high turbulence and rotating flow, residence times are increased and fuel and air mix well and combust more efficiently and completely.
