SBB ENERGY co-builds modern gas CHP plant in Kraków
We are pleased to announce that on July 21, 2025, a consortium comprising Unibep S.A. (as the leader) and SBB ENERGY S.A. (as a consortium partner) signed a contract with PGE Energia Ciepła S.A. for the implementation of the project titled:
“Construction of a gas-fired cogeneration source based on gas engine technology for PGE Energia Ciepła S.A., Branch No. 1 in Kraków.”
The total value of the contract amounts to nearly PLN 886 million (net).
Project Objective
The new gas-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant represents a significant step towards the energy transition and decarbonization of the district heating sector. The primary goals of the investment include:
- Ensuring stable and secure heat and electricity supply for the residents of Kraków,
- Reducing CO₂ emissions,
- Increasing the energy efficiency of the district heating system.
Scope of work to be delivered by SBB ENERGY
As part of the project, SBB ENERGY S.A. will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive scope of work:
- Acting as the General Designer, including preparation of key project documentation,
- Performing preparatory works, utility relocations, and dismantling of existing electrical infrastructure,
- Supplying and installing electric power output systems, including construction of a 110 kV electrical substation,
- Supplying and installing systems for thermal energy output, fuel combustion, and flue gas treatment,
- Installing auxiliary systems and comprehensive medium- and low-voltage electrical installations,
- Installing instrumentation and control systems (I&C) and automation systems,
- Coordinating and executing the commissioning of the entire installation.
This investment marks another important milestone in the development of our capabilities in delivering comprehensive turnkey projects that combine cutting-edge technologies with a responsible approach to the environment.
